ARKA GDYNIA LIFTS POLISH SUPERCUP

Arka Gdynia are set to begin the new season on a good note after they defeated Legia Warszawa in the Polish Super Cup.

The Yellow and Bluesdefeated their opponents through a penalty shootout after 90 minutes of regular play. The rule in the Polish Super Cup does not allow extra time so a shootout had to happen as the game could not be resolved beyond the 1-1 tie.

Arka took the game to the Polish champs from the start. Patryk Kun went close in the 7th minute but his header was off the mark. The champs came all out minutes later but Moulin’s effort was blocked.

Arka eventually scored the opener in the 20th minute. GrzegorzPiesio made his way to the box of Legia then he sent a cross that Michal Pazdan tried to block but he eventually deflected the ball to the net to send Arka up.

Legia switched up their attacks until they eventually got an equalizer in the 27th minute through Moulin. For the rest of the first half of the game, Legia kept pushing to kill off the match but the Arka keeper PavelsSteinbors was impressive on the night. Towards the end, Arka had a few chances but they could not change the scoreline.

After the break, both sides kept going at it but they were not able to change the scores. Steinbors was a life saver for his team as he had to intervene in goal-bound effort several times. After regular time, the game went straight to penalties where Steinbors was the saviour again. The keeper stopped two penalties to let Arka win 4:3

After the game Coach LeszekOjrzynski congratulated his side for shocking everyone with their display. He said the team would prepare for the Ekstraklasa inauguration next before the UEFA Europa League.
