KEEP THE FAITH

The Poland national team manager Waldemar Fornalik has said that he feels that his team is having a lot of faith in the moment and will be ready to take on Uruguay in a friendly match. Poland will be taking on the South American nation Uruguay in a friendly match looking to add to the two victories they have achieved in the recent four matches. Poland were extremely poor at the Euro 2012 despite being one of the host nations. This led to intense criticism of the team and the manager Waldemar Fornalik has made a lot of changes since the exit from the Euro 2012.

He has said that the changes are bringing out the desired effect in the team, as they have been able to claim crucial victories against Moldova in a World Cup qualifying match, while also drawing with England. They will be playing in a friendly match against Ukraine before entering into the World Cup qualifying matches once again from March. Waldemar Fornalik has said that he has made the team more attacking in nature. As a result, they have been able to play with more freedom and have consequently gained a lot of confidence as result of it.

“Over these last few months since I took over the team, the most important thing for me is that we have managed to change the attitude of the group, making it more expansive. The boys have found faith in their own abilities. They believe we can develop. We’re playing with our optimal squad. This is the last major test of the year, against a very strong opponent,” said the Poland national team manager ahead of the Uruguay match. Poland could be set to welcome the captain Kuba Blaszczykowski, as he has sufficiently recovered from his injury.

POLAND HAVE CHANGED

The Poland national team manager Waldemar Fornalik has said that he feels that the national team has changed a lot in terms of attitude for the last few months ever since going out of the Euro 2012 in disappointing fashion. Poland played at the Euro 2012 as part of the hosts, but were unable to progress past the group stages of the tournament. In fact, they suffered a very humiliating exit from the competition, which has raised the questions about the future of the national team. Ahead of the match with Uruguay on Wednesday, the manager Waldemar Fornalik said that he is confident that the team will be able to improve on its results in the World Cup qualifying stages.

Poland have started the World Cup qualifying campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with just one victory in the first three matches. They will be playing against Uruguay in a friendly match, which gives Waldemar Fornalik the opportunity to test and see a few players. He has accepted the fact that the team was not at its best at the Euro 2012, but they have managed to change their attitude in recent weeks and are much competitive than before. He has also said that the team has an optimal squad at the moment, which is moving in the right direction.

“Over these last few months since I took over the team, the most important thing for me is that we have managed to change the attitude of the group, making it more expansive. The boys have found faith in their own abilities. They believe we can develop. We’re playing with our optimal squad. This is the last major test of the year, against a very strong opponent,” said the manager ahead of the Uruguay match on Wednesday night.

KUSZCZAK EXCITED

The former Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has revealed that he is extremely excited to be part of the Poland national team once again after being recalled to play in the international team for the first time after two years. The 30-year-old goalkeeper has rarely featured in the first team of Manchester United in the last few seasons, which have also led to his position in the national team being under threat. The emergence of the Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has all but eliminated his chances of featuring in the Poland national team. Now, the injury to the Arsenal goalkeeper has opened a window for the former Manchester United goalkeeper.

Tomasz Kuszczak has frequently reiterated his desire to leave Old Trafford in search of the club first-team football so that he will be able to play international football on a regular basis. However, he has not been allowed to leave the club for the last few seasons, despite not getting first-team football. He recently completed a move to the Championship club Brighton and Hove Albion, and has been a regular player for them in the first few matches of the new Championship season. Now, the Poland national team manager has decided to call him.

“It was a surprise for me. For some time I was no longer in the picture and now I’m this close. Everything is going as it should: I changed club, I’ve had a good pre-season, I play regularly, I’m in good shape and now I received a call to the national team – these are only positive things. All the time I believed that playing regularly would bring me back to the team and indeed it did. I return to the team after a long break but I hope that it will show my good side and the coach writes my name on the teamsheet,” said Kuszczak.

LEWANDOWSKI NOT FOR SALE

The German club Borussia Dortmund have categorically stated that they will not be selling the star striker Robert Lewandowski at any price in the summer transfer window. Robert Lewandowski has become one of the most wanted players in Europe after performing exceptionally well for the German club in the last two seasons. He has been mainly responsible for the German club beating Bayern Munich to the title in the last two seasons. The Poland International also had good Euro 2012, which has only increased his reputation around Europe. Despite the enormous interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, the German club Borussia Dortmund has said that they would not sell the player at any price.

Borussia Dortmund know that there is not a lot of time left for the clubs to make their mark in the transfer window. However, the club are extremely keen on performing well in the Champions League group stages this time around. Having dominated the domestic league for the last two seasons, performing well in the Champions League is a must have priority for Borussia Dortmund. As a result, they need to keep the best players at the club. The club has already sold Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United for € 14 million.

Manchester United are thought to have been rejected from the advances made on the striker, who scored 30 goals in all competitions for the club last season. Manchester United are thought to have made a bid of around £ 22 million, which was rejected by Dortmund. It remains to be seen if the club will be able to hold the advances of the Premier league club in the last few days. Chelsea are also extremely keen on the striker and may be willing to go up to £ 35 million for his services.

FORNALIK TAKES CHARGE

The Polish football Association has announced that in a statement that Waldemar Fornalik will be taking charge of the national team after the team’s exit from the Euro 2012 in the group stages. Poland managed to qualify for the Euro 2012 as one of the cohosts. Hence, they were expected to do well at this competition due to the home advantage. They are in the same group containing the likes of Czech Republic, Russia, and Greece. Despite having a relatively easy group on paper, Poland failed to get past the group stages of the competition.

After having overseen a disastrous major competition, Franciszek Smuda decided to step down from his post as the national team manager of Poland. The football Association of Poland has been searching for a replacement since his resignation. They seem to have found the replacement in the form of Waldemar Fornalik, who will be taking charge of the national team with immediate effect. He will be given the task of guiding the team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The qualification phase for the World Cup will be beginning shortly. Waldemar Fornalik will be hoping to put behind the disappointment of being eliminated from the Euro 2012 at an early stage.

“Of course it’s a big honour to be in charge of the national team. It is a big challenge and a big responsibility because I know how big the expectations of Poland fans are,” said Waldemar Fornalik in his first press conference as the Poland national team manager. “I think Fornalik is one of the most talented Polish coaches and I hope he will do a great job for the national team,” said the chief executive of the Poland football Association – Grzegorz Lato. Poland will be facing the likes of England and Ukraine in the group stages of the World Cup qualification.

Nerves affect Poland

Poland’s coach has admitted that some of his players were affected by nerves in their opening Euro 2012 game. Franciszek Smuda conceded that under the high pressure of playing their opening game in a tournament they are co-hosting some of his players froze and failed to perform at the level he and their nation were expecting of them.

Things were looking rosy for Poland at half time. Robert Lewandowski put them one up and the Greeks were then reduced to 10 men following Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ sending off for two yellow cards. Poland failed to capitalise and kill the game off. Greece came out for the second half a much improved side and equalised, before Poland themselves also had a man sent off in Wojciech Szczesny. Substitute goalkeeper, Przemyslaw Tyton was in the end Poland’s hero. His first action after coming on was to save a penalty, which proved to be the decisive act in sealing a draw and an opening point for the Poles.

Smuda tried to look on the bright side after the game though. “I told the players to cheer up, it would have been much worse if we had lost. It is not the end, the tournament is still open. It’s great big-match experience for Lewy and the others who are going off to Manchester United and Liverpool in the future.”

The Poles were come the end of the game satisfied with the result. Focussing on the positives of getting a result against the 2004 champions, “Greece are a very experienced team and it is difficult to score against them. It was difficult when we lost the goalkeeper. The situation changed because of the red card.”

Poland now face Russia and the Greeks will take on the Czech Republic. Having drawn their opening games both will be eager to take something from both of their remaining games to maximise their chances of advancing to the latter stages of the tournament.

PISZCZEK COULD BE GREAT

Poland national team manager Franciszek Smuda has said that the country’s right back Lukasz Piszczek could be a great signing for Real Madrid this season. Spanish club Real Madrid are looking at the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund right back Lukasz Piszczek in the summer. He has been influential in the team over the last two seasons in helping them win the title ahead of Bayern Munich. It has been a tremendous achievement from Borussia Dortmund, and a major chunk of the praise should go to Lukasz Piszczek according to Franciszek Smuda. The manager has also said that Real Madrid would benefit a lot from signing Lukasz Piszczek.

However, signing the Poland international will certainly not be easy because Dortmund have been extremely hard on their stance that they will not sell their player in the summer. It will be an interesting summer for Dortmund because they will be hoping to retain most of the stars, yet doing well in the Champions League next season. Poland have a number of high profile players, who are showing their talent in recent seasons. The Dortmund players Kuba Blaszczykowski and striker Robert Lewandowski are a few of them. They have been named in the Bundesliga team of the season along with Lukasz Piszczek.

“He’d definitely make the first team. He chews up his opponents and spits them out. I know that for every player, Real Madrid is like a fairy tale, but Piszczek really would fit. He has no reason to have any hangups,” Franciszek Smuda said about his right back. Poland will be hoping that these players impress for them at the Euro 2012. They are the group containing Russia, Greece, and Czech Republic. Given the current form of these players, Poland will be hoping to qualify from the group along with their home advantage.

POLISH PLAYERS WIN BUNDESLIGA

Borussia Dortmund have just won the German Bundesliga title for the second season in a row beating Bayern Munich. Celebrating this wonderful achievement, Borussia Dortmund’s key players from Poland – Robert Lewandowski, Jakub Blaszczykowski, and Lukasz Piszczek – have been excellent all season long. They believe that playing together for the club team enhances their ability to play well for the national team. Poland will be kicking off the Euro 2012 with the opening match against Greece. Borussia Dortmund recently gained an eight point advantage at the top of the table with only two matches remaining in the season, thus confirming their title.

Borussia Dortmund managed a spectacular 1-0 win over Championship rivals Bayern Munich. It was followed with a 2-1 win over Schalke, while Bayern Munich managed to get beaten against Mainz. This effectively sealed the title for Dortmund. It is extremely unlikely for a team other than Bayern Munich to win two back-to-back Championships in Germany. However, despite selling a number of players in the summer, the club continues to be fighting for the top of the table. Blaszczykowski said that playing well for the club team meant that the trio will be able to perform instinctively for their national team.

“To play for the club is very different from playing for the national team. Here in Dortmund we play three at a time; that will help for the national team as well. For example, I play with Lukas on one side we are allowed to play blind. This will be the same in the national team on nearly the same level. Of course we play different at the front but the running is the same. With the Polish team we have less time to practice and to work together. We have just two weeks of preparation for the Euros,” Blaszczykowski said.
