Robert Lewandowski is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Bayern Munich.
The Polish international is regarded as one of the top centre forwards in world football. Signed by Pep Guardiola, he continues to play an integral role in the team. Lewandowski still has a contract with Bayern Munich until the summer of 2019. However, Bayern Munich are thought to be concerned about the increasing transfer rumours linking Lewandowski with a move to Manchester City. It will reunite the forward with Guardiola, as he looks to increase his forward options at the new club.
As a result, Bayern Munich are ready to offer a new contract to the player who is already one of the highest earners at the club. Lewandowski came to Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund and he has already won the Bundesliga twice. One of the biggest regrets for the Polish striker so far would be his inability to win the Champions League.
He came very close to doing so with Borussia Dortmund after reaching the final only to be beaten by Bayern. He ended up joining the five-time European champions only to get disappointed in the semi-final stage on three occasions.
The 28-year-old has scored 79 goals in 114 appearances in the last three seasons with Bayern. Since making his debut for Poland in 2008, he has appeared in 84 games.”I don’t think it will take much longer, but we need to have a bit more patience. I haven’t signed the contract yet. When we have find a few solutions (to a few issues) we will inform everyone,” said the striker about the new contract. The year 2015 saw Lewandowski achieve his best ever tally of 11 goals for the national team. He has six so far this year from a respectable 11 games.
